The latest performance of the Krakow Dance Theatre is inspired by the Polish modern dance technique, which unites the Polish folk tradition and transforms it into a specific movement code.
Polish contemporary dance technique reflects the Polish mentality, psychophysical features, history and geopolitical situation. All these elements can be found in the way of movement, in articulation, in the way of combining phrases and sequences into semantic relationships. The essence of the Polish contemporary dance technique, as claimed by its creator Jacek Łumiński, lies deep in the ground on which folklore of various regions of Poland grew.
The performance, embedded in the current socio-political context, features traditional folk songs, performed partly live. The folk inspirations, both in the musical and movement layers, are transformed into the contemporary form of dance theatre. Social moods that have recently been tensing have served as a starting point to reflect on the specifics of Polish community. The creators of the performance ask questions, where is the boundary between “for” and “against”; or whether “yes” and “no” are the only possible answers to questions / problems posed by local and European reality?
